What AI Is Not (Myths & Reality)

Movies have taught us to fear robots with red eyes. The news tells us AI is going to steal everything. Let's separate the science fiction from the reality.

Myth 1: AI Can "Think" and "Feel"

Reality: AI has zero feelings. It does not get happy, sad, or angry. When an AI says, "I am sorry," it is just predicting that "sorry" is the polite word to use in that sentence. It feels nothing.

Myth 2: AI Is Always Right

Reality: AI makes mistakes—a lot of them. Because it predicts answers based on patterns, it can confidently tell you something that is completely false. This is called a "hallucination."

  • Never trust AI blindly. Always fact-check important information.

Myth 3: AI Will Replace All Humans

Reality: AI is replacing tasks, not humans.

  • Calculators replaced doing math by hand, but we still need accountants.
  • AI might write a first draft, but we still need writers to give it soul and accuracy.
  • The humans who succeed will be the ones who learn to use the tool.

Myth 4: AI Is Magic

Reality: It is just statistics. It is millions of math equations processing data. Once you understand the mechanism, the magic spell is broken, and you can see it for what it is: a useful machine.
